with 36 comments

Atlanta restaurants and businesses will be participating in a Dine Out event on Wednesday, January 28th, 2009.  Proceeds from this event will be donated to Crime Stoppers Atlanta and go directly to increasing the reward for information leading to the apprehension and arrest of the individuals involved in the murder of John Henderson at Standard Food & Spirits in Grant Park a few weeks ago.

Restaurants, bars, and other businesses that are interested in participating in the event should contact Rubi Cuautle (email: rubi@sixfeetunder.net).

Participating businesses are encouraged to donate 20% of their sales from the evening of the Dine Out, however any amount donated will be accepted.

A petition is available for you to complete and turn in to any business participating in the Dine-Out on Wednesday, January 28.

  7. Hey —

How about lunch? Will participating locations be making contributions from lunch proceeds as well?

    Thanks,

  8. Donna- I think it’s only for dinner however I would contact the restaurant you will be attending and ask whether they are including their lunch. I know different restaurants are donating on different levels. Thanks for your interest!

  11. I believe all businesses are contributing a portion of their profits however I would call the business to ask whether your take-out portion would be included in the donation.

  17. We’ll be out in support-

These sort of things are preventable-

There are tools out there available to stop this sort of crime

We have to make a commitment and demand that companies make decisions to keep us and their employees safe.

  24. Thanks, Rob, for updating the site.
I was so proud to wait in line for 40 minutes to order at Taqueria Del Sol, and people kept pouring in behind me. I’m so proud of how my community has rallied. Our collective voice needs to be heard. We must continue to scream at the tops of our lungs that sick senseless loss of life will not be tolerated. Rest in peace John.

  26. From my drive by from Grant Park to EAV, looked like a great turnout…and that was sort of early (7ish); also, looked like Zone 3 did their part at Six Feet Under. Way to go everyone.

  27. I participated in the Dine Out last night at The Vortex in Little 5 Points and it was a very cool thing to be a part of. John Henderson was very much a part of the evening there. Ozlo performed some great tunes and there was a special guest from “Stomp” who joined in. It was an amazing night and I’m proud of my community for coming together like we did last night. I hope it continues and my prayers continue to be with John’s loved ones.

  28. A group of about 8 of us went to Holy Taco last night. When we pulled onto Haas and there were cars lining the street, my 8 year old daughter yelled “yay! Look how many people showed up!” I must admit it brought a few tears to my eyes…

  29. I ate at Zaya last night for the purpose of supporting this cause, and at the end of my meal I found out that they were not participating. I know some others who dined there as well, under the impression that proceeds would be donated. Is there anyway you can convince Zaya to make a contribution?

    Jennifer

    29 Jan 09 at 9:31 AM

  30. @Jennifer- Zaya was supposed to have participated. We will reach out to them. Thanks so much for letting us know about this and for your support.

  31. Had delicious dinner at 4th and Swift, made all the better by knowing that it helped the Crime Stoppers reward fund. Next best was not being suddenly accosted by hostile, aggressive strangers in the parking lot, nor finding my car broken-in-to. A successful night out in Atlanta, just like the good old days.

Was struck by the wording of the DINE OUT flyer at the restaurant:

“Please Join us in a Dine Out increase the Crime Stoppers Reward for the arrest of the assailants involved int he murder of John Hnenderson at the Standard on January 7th.”

Compliments to the author for their gentility and civility, but in the emergency of our times that threatens our lives, we need to recover the meaning of the English language, use our inheritance for our own purposes, and never hestitate from speaking honestly.

Thus, as an alternative wording for the January 7th, 2010, second annual John Henderson Memorial Dine Out fundraiser to increase the yet unclaimed reward fund, please consider:

“Join us in the second annual Dine Out for the Crime Stoppers reward fund to be paid for information leading to arrest, conviction, and incareration of the gang members responsible for murdering John Henderson on January 7th, 2009.”
