Atlantans Together Against Crime (ATAC)
Atlantans Together Against Crime (ATAC) has been established in response to the wave of violent crime that is taking over our city. More and more we hear stories of friends and family being assaulted, robbed at gunpoint, and now, just recently, murdered. The increase in violent crime is staggering – and heartbreaking – but as these stories become more and more common, city officials are cutting back the police force and claiming crime is on the decline.
Please add your name to the mailing list to help raise awareness to the rise in violent crime as well as to take action with Atlanta’s lawmakers. Please join our Facebook group also. The Facebook group will be for sharing accounts of violent crime that effect those within our community, as well as posting updates on news, protests, and other tools to help bring awareness to this issue. The mailing list will be used to share information on gatherings, protests, and lobbying efforts to fight cutbacks. You will not be inundated with email and will only notify you of big events (estimated at a few emails a month).

I am disappointed and upset to see what’s happening to Atlanta right now. The tragic murder of John Henderson sent me over the edge. This is not the time for Shirley to cut back our police force. We need the police now more than ever. Thanks for organizing this group.

It is imperative in these troubling economic times to protect the citizens of our city with a well funded police force.

I wish people in Atlante the best of luck, but I also suggest getting your Georgia Firearms License, you can protect yourself legally. I carry all day everyday, dont wait to be a victim.

ATAC can help us all by having our supporters in the APD write up guidelines on how and when we should use a gun in preventing ourselves from getting dead by the gun of a robber.

I’m not the biggest fan of “The Sunday Paper” but props go out to the latest opinion section by Stephanie Ramage.
“And while violent crime overall in 2008 may have been down, statistics from October, the latest available stats on the APD Web site, show that murder in that one month increased by 140 percent over the number of murders reported in the same month in 2007, rising from five to 12. Rapes increased by 600 percent from one to seven, and residential burglaries increased by 20 percent from 654 in October 2007 to 784 in October 2008. The Sunday Paper has submitted an open records request to the APD for crime statistics from November and December to see whether October heralded an upward year-end trend.”
Apparently trends in crime only happen in YEARS not MONThES when Shirley Franklin talks about crime trends.

I am very happy to see citizens and businesses come together to raise their voices to Mayor Franklin.
Unfortunately, given our current economic crisis, we can only expect violent crime to increase. As police respond after the fact, I highly recommend citizens and business owners obtain a Georgia Concealed Carry Weapons permit, purchase a firearm, obtain instruction, practice, practice, practice and fight back.
Passive, peaceful resistance may have it’s place; however self-defense in a life-threatening situation is not one of them.
Criminals are cowards and will always choose the path of least resistance. Just the thought that you might be armed and willing to use deadly force to protect yourself and the ones you love may persuade the criminal to choose another victim.

If you want to see how private citizens have cut crime, just look at Kennesaw. Now compare that to Midtown or any of city inside the perimeter. However,if you do go down the carry route, get some training, know the laws, and practice…a lot.
Also,if you wish to keep that choice, join GeorgiaCarry.Org,for the good Mayor Frankly does not like armed law-abiding citizens very much, nor does APD,Dekalb,or Fulton police.

I just returned from the L5P rally, and while I debated putting an empty holster on my hip (empty because of the “public gathering” wording in the state law and the APD presence there) I may or may not have been carrying concealed, but these criminals need to be stopped, and given a good reason two think three or four times before using the threat of deadly force against law abiding citizens. More criminals ending up like Jamarcus Usher would help.

For all the enthusiasm and hope, carrying a weapon is not the best defense response UNLESS you are WELL EXPERIENCED. Who wants to go home, and who wants to go the the hospital (worst – morgue). Weapons can be used against you. The most useful Self Defense tips are taught & learned, not printed in magazines for all to read that ‘counter moves and alternative responses are devised’. The Guardian Angels are useful & effective.

I participated in the Dine Out last night at The Vortex in Little 5 Points and it was a very cool thing to be a part of. John Henderson was very much a part of the evening there. Ozlo performed some great tunes and there was a special guest from “Stomp” who joined in. It was an amazing night and I’m proud of my community for coming together like we did last night. I hope it continues and my prayers continue to be with John’s loved ones.

Everyone,
I will start by saying this: First and foremost, THERE ARE GANGS IN ATLANTA! Crips,Bloods,Sur 13 etc. These gangs range from the ages of 12-29 years old. They had a big influx of members within the last 2-3 years,Most coming during Hurricane Katrina. However, there were some here already, but became most active as the gangs continued to grow. Most of the people commiting these crimes are the younger generation.90-95% of the crimes you hear on the news is in the Atlanta area and are mostly done by people within these age ranges.
On the flip side of that coin, As the gangs grew, the police shrinked. The decline in police officers on the streets of Atlanta has put us where we are now. Most citizens of Atlanta pretty much have to go for self.Never in my wildest dreams did i ever imagine taking firearms classes to protect myself and my family because of the political games Shirley Franklin and Sonny Purdue are playing. Number one priority with ANY city official should be public safety. No ends or buts about that! Because our safety is at jeopardy, We have to consider using deadly force when neccssary. Which neccessary seems to be quite often in Atlanta. I’m asking one question from our next governor and mayor(which shirley and sonny’s terms end this year) PLEASE MAKE PUBLIC SAFETY YOUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY! 90-95% of the crime you hear on the news is in the Atlanta area.
Check the APD site month by month. Take note to the “CRIME MAPPING” section. It gives you an idea of what is going on in your area every month.

Not that I’m totally impressed, but this is a lot more than I expected when I stumpled upon a link on SU telling that the info is quite decent. Thanks.
