Notes from Reed Press Conference on New COO for Atlanta
At a press conference from the transitional offices at City Hall today, Mayor-elect Kasim Reed announced his choice for Chief Operating Officer for the city. Peter Aman will take the helm and lead the executive management of the municipal operating departments including Police, Fire, Corrections, Aviation, Human Resources, Information Technology, Procurement, Public Works, Parks/Recreation/Cultural Affairs, Watershed Management, and Planning and Community Development.
Personally, I think it’s an excellent choice. Peter Aman was a partner in Bain & Company who authored the Turnaround plan for Atlanta in 2002 and 2005 (otherwise known as “The Bain Report”). He certainly knows the city from the inside out.
Notes from the conference follow.
Notes from the 2nd Mayoral Forum
I was able to attend three sessions of the CFA/ATAC Mayoral Forum this past weekend. I caught Lisa Borders, Kasim Reed, and Mary Norwood. I wasn’t able to see Jesse Spikes because I had to run off to work.
I took notes of the questions and answers. I will include them below the fold. They’re quite rough, in outline form, and as accurate as you can be typing away while everyone is talking. Still, you will be able to get the gist. You can follow up with the candidates directly or wait for the videos if you have any questions.
Who Will You Vote for Mayor? Decide Here.
The next Mayor of Atlanta needs to be a leader who has the proven ability to take us forward. Let Atlantans Together help you decide who to vote for below the fold….

ATAC Teams Up With Campaign For Atlanta
Campaign for Atlanta is a group working to raise the level of debate in the mayoral race this year. They are bringing neighborhoods and other groups together to explore the Mayoral candidates’ plans for addressing the growing issues facing the city. The intent is to get past the rhetoric and talking points and get to the well-considered ideas and plans the candidates have for turning Atlanta around.
CFA believes we have three major issues facing the city right now:
- Financial Solvency
- Safety and Basic Services
- Competence and Good Government
ATAC and CFA will be hosting two forums where the top four Mayoral candidates – Lisa Borders, Mary Norwood, Kasim Reed, and Jesse Spikes – will be answering our questions. All candidates have confirmed participation and the event will occur at The Carter Center.
Like Atlantans Together, CFA is reaching out to neighborhoods across the city and many are coming together to be a part of the campaign. Current partners include:
- Atlantans Together Against Crime
- Fulton County Taxpayers Association
- Midtown Ponce Security Alliance
- Organized Neighbors of Summerhill
- South Atlanta Civic League
- Capitol View Neighborhood Association
- Sylvan Hills Neighborhood Association
- South Atlantans for Neighborhood Development (SAND)
The list will continue to expand. If your neighborhood would like to stand with us please contact Kyle.
